50 Years Plus Reviewed
The online dating scene is typically targeted to a younger demographic. 50 years plus dares to be different in providing senior and mature singles, both nationally and internationally, an opportunity to find a soulmate, friend or pen pal.
One thing you’ll notice immediately is the fact that you are unable to search the site until you sign up for a free trial membership. This unfortunately doesn’t present much of an opportunity to get a feel for the site prior to submitting your personal data and going through the entire process of becoming a member.
The 7-day free trial however is excellent as it grants you access to everything that a premium member enjoys with the lone exception of chat privileges. Your free trial will also enable you to post your profile, photo, browse the database of singles and provide you with your own anonymous email account and you will receive messages from the Automatic Notification Assistant whenever a member joins the site that matches your selected criteria.
Another rare feature is the fact that you are able to contact other members of the site even while you are testing out your free trial membership.
Additional free content includes a variety of e-books, complete with a free e-book reader, games and a free monthly newsletter. The site is somewhat limited when it comes to special features. Older singles may be into the fun that comes with web cam chatting, instant messaging, etc but message boards and forums would also be a nice touch to build a sense of community.
One noticeable problem with the site, no fault of the administrators, is the fact that many members are shy about adding photos to their profiles. The site encourages all members to post photos after one month to enhance their profile and the administrators do what they can by listing profiles that include photos higher in search results.
The administrators at one point apparently believed that the older generation not being particularly web savvy might be the culprit for the lack of pictures and their response to this was to provide a service where members can physically mail photos to a specific address to be scanned and posted to their profile.
This unfortunately did not resolve the issue.
Perhaps this is a statement that the older generations are self-conscious about their appearance or uneasy about having their photo on the Internet, not to mention a dating website.
Getting back into the dating scene can be a nerve wrecking experience for anyone. 50 years plus provides a basic bare bones friendly environment that is non-threatening and easy to navigate.
