They even encourage people to meet others for non-romantic notions like finding a travel partner, a sports buddy, someone to chat with, a pen pal, a good neighbor or a business associate.

The site itself offers personal ads, video and web cam chat, matchmaking services, photo galleries, instant messaging and user forums. Browsing is free and non-subscribers can still take part in group discussions, read and reply to email from Gold members and search the database of singles by zip code/location or when members were last logged in.

Non-subscribers are allotted ten minutes of free instant messaging time before that service times out and encourages you to purchase a Gold membership.

Non-subscribers can also send ‘Virtual Gifts’ as an icebreaker to express their interest or lack of interest in another user. The gift service is more or less an electronic greeting card that provides a simple way of sending a message, even a rejection complete with the imagery of one character running away from another. There are also forums where users can post stories or offer advice to other singles. Various articles offering tips, advice and guidance through the online dating community are available too.

Paid membership will give you unlimited access when sending and responding to messages. If you become a Gold member, non-paying members are able to respond back to you. Paid members also gain access to subscriber photo albums, Megafriends.com chat rooms and uninterrupted instant messaging.

The presentation of the website isn’t very flashy. The design is basic but very user-friendly and easy to navigate. The online profiles have a very real quality about them without any type of glitz or glamour. Be warned however that various Internet searches do bring up some user complaints. Many of these complaints mention the abundance of fake accounts and people that abuse the system to boost their standing in the Favorites list. Some members also complain of other users spamming their mailboxes to push people into visiting their photo gallery to rate their photos.
