Obviously, from the name of the website, one can figure out that Military Date is an Internet dating service specifically targeted to members of the military. The basic premise of the site is to serve as a quick starting point for members of all military branches to meet and mingle. The site is also friendly to civilians with a military background or fondness for a man or woman in uniform.

Membership is affordable in comparison to other online dating sites but you should be warned that the site features are basic and quite limited.

One would think that an online dating service that is simple and easy to use would be bonus as there are far too many internet dating sites that unfortunately require members to practically study an online tutorial to learn how to properly navigate the site and communicate with members. The simplicity of Military date should be welcome in the world of online dating but the design is oversimplified and the setup of is sadly lacking depth.

There are no added bells and whistles like live chat, instant messaging or community message boards and chat rooms (as at the time of writing!). There is basic email and that’s primarily your only means of communicating with someone of interest. The lack of options in communicating with other members is disappointing to many who have come to expect such features from a paid subscription to an online dating service.

The Military Date member profile structure is also so straightforward that member details are often unsatisfactory in the eyes of many visitors. The process of setting up a profile is very simple with drop down menus available for users to state their military position, civilian and marital status and whether or not they use tobacco or alcohol. There is a written essay portion for members to compose their self-description with a minimum of 75 words. The problem is that many members don’t add too many details to this section and there are also a high number of members that do not post photos. Perhaps it would be an improvement if the drop down menus and the profile process in general demanded more information from users.

The simplicity of Military Date is often criticized for making the user experience ineffective to a certain degree. There isn’t enough information in each profile for a user to determine whether or not someone is truly of interest to them.

This isn’t to say that the site is without positives.

One surprising charm is the fact that the guy/girl ratio, unlike other online dating sites, actually favors men with the number of female members outweighing male membership. This is extremely unusual in the world of online dating sites.

Users are able to search the database of singles by military branch, rank and the nearest military installation which is a nice touch and you can also limit your search to only those members that have posted photos.

Please do remember that we are only here to give you a guideline and your own opinion may well differ from ours so it is strongly urged that you visit militarydate.com yourself to determine if it’s for you, especially if you are someone from the military or interested in military personnel. The site is undoubtedly useful to it’s current members but we would like to see the profiles be a little bit more in-depth and include other features that enable easy conversation for paid members.
